Tuesday, July 2nd, 1861





To day William Leaverton came down, and we went in Company together, to Hall's bluff [on the banks of the Trinity River]. after transacting some business we returned in the evening. There was a large Comit visible at night situated in the N.W. weather changeable & warm.

Monday, July 1st, 1861

To day Frank Stewart, Toby & I went up to the Mill in the buggy and while there caught a fine mess of fish. I borrowed Harwell's horse and went to see William Leaverton. We all returned to Mother's in the evening. weather changeable & warm with a hard rain at night.

Sunday, June 30th, 1861

To day we left Dailey's and drove 25 miles passing through Crockett and arrived at the mill about 4 o'clk. P.M. there we found John Harwell sick. We then went to Mothers and stoped. weather clear & very warm.

Saturday, June 29th, 1861


To day we all left Sumpter and traveled 17 miles and stoped at Dailey's for the night. Hawk recovering from his sickness. I found Dailey at home and spent a very pleasant night. expenses 60 cts. weather clear & warm.

Friday, June 28th, 1861

To day we left Livingston and drove 24 miles to Sumpter where we stoped for the night at the Eureka Hotel. In consequence of the sickness of my horse I was compelled to leave Frank Stewart in Livingston, the horse getting better however Frank arrived in Sumpter about 9 O'clk P.M. expenses $5.60. weather clear & warm.

Thursday, June 27th, 1861

To day we left Grand Cane and traveled 32 miles and arrived at Livingston. we stoped for the night with Judge Andress. My horse Hawk was very sick all day and with very little prospect of his recovery. expenses $6.75. weather clear but very warm.

Wednesday, June 26th, 1861

To day the little woman, Florence and myself in the buggy with Frank Stewart & negro girl Conny on Hawk left Liberty for the mills. we traveled 23 miles & stoped for the night at Grand Cane. Conny had a severe fever all night. expenses of the day $3. weather cloudy & warm.
