To day I went up town to attend the election of a Brig. Genl. & there voted for T.J. Chambers. Business dull. The Steamer Ruthven left for Galveston. Alex* is still at my house. The little woman is better. The Boys finished the well house. Capt. Scruggs' Co. received some 10 or 15 recruits at the ware house. weather clear & very cold. [*Alex is the 2nd great-grandma of the Keeper of this blog]
Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.
