To day the steamer Ruthven arrived from Galveston bringing up but little freight. I am engaged in making out accounts. But little done in the way of business. Alexandrien*, who had been staying at my house, left for her Mother's*. Capt. James A. Scruggs & Company arrived from Polk County and quartered at the ware house. The boys are still in the woods getting posts. weather changeable & warm with drizzling rain, and at night a very hard rain. [*Alexandrien is the 2nd great-grandma of the Keeper of this blog . . . and her Mother is the 3rd great-grandma]
Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.
