To day the Steamer Ruthven arrived from Galveston. Capt. James Wrigley came home on her. He appears to be in fine health. Sam Sharp* went after my mules that run off on yesterday. he over hauled them about 10 or 11 miles up the road, and drove them back by luck. Bill taken sick, and nothing doing on my fence. at night I had to turn out on patrol service. weather clear & warm. [*Sam is 2nd great-grandpa to the Keeper of this family history blog.]
Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.
