Monday, April 14th, 1862

To day I am busy at work on the war tax rolls. The steamer Ruthven arrived from Galveston with considerable freight. Sam Sharp and the boys are engaged in storing it away. Business very dull. in fact nothing in that line doing. Frank Hitchcock went up and took tea with us. The Steamer Ruthven left for Galveston at night. weather clear and quite pleasant.

Saturday, April 12th, 1862

To day I am still engaged in making out the war tax rolls. Sam Sharp at work in making out a/c's. Business dull. Boys are still at work on the fence, with some prospects of finishing in the course of human events. weather clear & pleasant, in the day, but very cold at night.

To day I am still engaged working on the war tax rolls. Boys are working on the fence. The steamer Ruthven arrived from and departed for Galveston having brought but little freight. Sam Sharp is busy making out a/c's. Business very dull. weather changeable and very cold for the season of the year.

To day I am still working on the war tax rolls. Sam Sharp has entirely recovered. Charley finished plowing out the corn. Boys still at work on the fence. weather cloudy & a heavy rain at night.

To day I am still engaged at work on the war tax rolls. Sam Sharp is much better. business very dull. I put Charley to plowing out the corn patch. The other boys are working on the fence. weather clear & very cold for the season.

To day I am still at work on the war tax rolls. Sam Sharp is quite sick, so much so as to prevent him from attending to any kind of business. The steamer Ruthven left for Galveston. Boys at work on my fence. weather cloudy & showery. at night a strong north wind came out making it very cold.
