To day I rode out in the woods to select some timber suitable to make garden pickets. Hicks still at work on the garden rails. Sam Sharp still at work on the loom (i.e.) in making the loom for Mother [i.e., Mahala Lee Sharp Hall nee Roberts]. I ground only 2½ bushels of corn. James Wootters stoped to see me. he was on his way to Corsicana. I am busy setting the garden posts. weather changeable & warm with occasional showers of rain.
Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.
