Friday, June 19th, 1863

To day the boys are still at work chopping out the bottom field. John is at work running tar. Sam [Samuel Houston Sharp] rode down to Mother's [Mahala Sharp Hall nee Roberts] to fix her loom. I ground 3 bushels of corn and went fishing in the evening with poor success. weather changeable and hot. a light shower of rain fell doing more injury than good to the crops. Ther: 89°.
