Saturday, June 6th, 1863

To day after bidding "good-bye" to all our friends and relatives in Liberty, Nellie [Mary Alexandrien Sharp nee Lemaire] and I left in the buggy drawn by my horse Rob in rather poor condition considering the order in which he was when we drove him down some few days since. We drove 23 miles and stopped for the night at Grand Cane. We stopped at Mr. Hawkins as we passed and there ascertained that the wagons had stopped and got our things that had been left there last fall by Sam Sharp [Samuel Houston Sharp]. The wagons also took the things that were left at Grand Cane. weather clear and very hot. Ther: 96°.
