To day the boys are still at work planting corn in the lower field. Hicks ground 7½ bushels of corn. Father [Joshua James Hall] rode in to Crockett and back. The little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp], children and I drove down to Mothers [Mahala* Sharp Hall nee Roberts] to see her. she is much improved in health and will soon be up. In the evening about 30 Crockettites came out on a fishing excursion. nine of the ladies put up with us at the house. weather changeable & cool, with a shower of rain and a large frost at night.

*This Mahala is a 3rd great-grandma to the Keeper of this family history blog.
