Saturday, July 2nd, 1864

To day the boys again went out hunting cows & calves. Mother [Mahala Sharp Hall nee Roberts] & Mrs. Leaverton came up in my buggy and remained to assist the little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp] in taking care of Jimmy [James Wrigley Hall], who is still very sick with a severe attack of bilious fever. Dr. Murchison came to see Jimmy professionally. The Doctor made me a present of 5 lbs of good home made tobacco. He also made for the little woman 2 bottles of paragoric. Hicks ground 14 bushels of corn. Weather clear & hot. Ther: 90°.
