Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.
To day the boys are at work in the new ground. Nellie* [Mary Alexandrien Sharp nee Lemaire] and Pet [Florence Mahala Hall] returned from Mother's [Mahala* Sharp Hall nee Roberts]. Billy Stewart and Billy Wingfield left for Crockett. I let the latter have 50 lbs of flour for which he owes me 30$. Hicks ground 16 bushels of corn. Weather changeable and warm.

To day the boys are at work in the lower field. Billy Stewart and Billy Wingfield came out from Crockett. I went fishing with them. we had good success. I caught the largest trout that has ever been caught out of the mill pond. Hicks ground 10 bushels of corn. To day I took Toby [Horace Oscar Hall] with me and went fishing in the lower creek. we had fine success. Mrs. Byrd came down and spent the day. Nellie* [Mary Alexandrien Sharp nee Lemaire] rode down to Mothers' [Mahala* Sharp Hall nee Roberts] and carried Toby with her home. Mr. Butler from Magnolia on his way home to Cold Springs stopped. Weather clear and warm.
