Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.

Thursday, June 29th, 1865
To day I am still in Houston and having been left by the train yesterday I must pass the time as best I can. Charles A. Leaverton arrived in Houston direct from Crockett and put up at the same hotel with me. He informs me that my friends in Crockett are well. Weather cloudy & warm with occasional showers of rain making it very disagreeable. Ther: 86°.

Tuesday, June 27th, 1865
To day I left Liberty in company with Col. Jim Wrigley on the cars bound for Houston. We arrived at Houston safely and I stopped at the Fannin House with my old friend Col. Murray. Weather clear & hot. Ther: 90°.

To day at 6 a.m. we arrived at Galveston and stoped at the Tremont Hotel and left at 3½ P.M. on the cars and arrived at Houston at 8 P.M. we stoped at the Fannin house. expenses of the day $4.50. weather clear & warm.
