Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.

Monday, May 7th, 1866
To day I am at work at the warehouse. The Str. Royal Arch arrived from Galveston. I received by her 1 keg lard and 1 pair of buggy shafts. Ed. Jones arrived from Houston on the train and by him I received a set of wagon and a set of buggy harness. I am still afflicted with the itch. The children are still improving. Capt. John Redmond is still at work painting my house. Weather cloudy and warm, with indications of rain.
