Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.

Monday, May 9th, 1864
To day the boys are at work in the lower field. I attended the mill and ground 14½ bushels of corn. Billy Stewart and Billy Cundiff came out from Crockett and stopped with me for the night. I delivered to Mr. Cundiff's wagon (which was driven by Mr. Lane) all of his Cundiff's flour amounting to 913 lbs of superfine 60 lbs shorts and 12 bushels of bran. I also let Billy Stewart have 2 bushels of meal. Weather cloudy & cool with occasional showers of rain.

Wednesday, April 4th, 1860
To day one plow is braking up the new ground. I went to the mill and got 2 bushels of bran. Weather cloudy & windy.

Still at work at the fence. Isaac TANNER worked to day, and lost half day by sending Albert to the mill for 5 bushels of bran. The weather clear but cold. North wind blowing all day and heavy frost at night.

To day I went to HALL'S bluff, and purchased a few articles at HERNDON'S sale. The river down & one flat boat from PARKER'S bluff laying there with 307 bales of cotton. Sent Albert to the mill for wheat bran but was disappointed on getting it. still at work in the clearing burning brush. weather to day warm but cloudy and cold with heavy frost at night.
