Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.

To day I remained at home writing up this note book. Jimmy [James Wrigley Hall] had a chill and fever. Capt. John W. Redman is still with me. Capt. Dawson and wife came up and spent the day with the little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp]. Weather clear and hot.

To day in the forenoon I remained at home writing up this journal. In the evening Col. Wrigley and I attended the funeral of young Prescott Pickett, who was buried in the burial ground at Liberty. Capt. John W. Redman is still with me. I am still suffering from the itch. Weather clear & hot : Ther : 94°.

To day I am at work at the ware house. Col. Wrigley with the hands finished the ground work and laying the floor of the Warehouse shed. Hicks & Steve are at work hauling the salt out of the McKim house and piling it upon the platform or floor of the shed. Jimmy [James Wrigley Hall] & I are still suffering with the itch or some other infernal sores. Weather variable and cool with occasional showers of rain. Thus closes my jottings for the month of May.

To day I wrote a little in this journal, and then walked down to the [Trinity] river. I am suffering with diarrhea. The river is rising very fast. John W. Redmond is still here and suffering with rheumatism. Weather cloudy and cool, with occasional showers of rain.

To day I am engaged in writing up this journal. Pet [Florence Mahala Hall] is still sick also Frank [Stewart] & Burt [Roberta Downes Halyard nee Hall]. Mrs. Beale* [Elizabeth Lemaire Beale nee Waring] came over and spent the day with the little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp]. her horse is still here. Col. Wrigley employed Mrs. Buckley to teach school for him until the 1st of July next. Weather clear & cold with a hard frost at night.

To day I am engaged in writing letters. The Steamer Kate arrived from Galveston with considerable freight. by her I received a new hat & one box raisins, Keg lard & some butter. Frank [Stewart] and Burt [Roberta Downes Halyard nee Hall] are still quite sick. Weather variable and rather warm for the season of the year.

To day I remained at home, principally writing a letter. Burt [Roberta Downes Halyard nee Hall] and Pet [Florence Mahala Hall] are still very sore with the itch, although I am applying lard & sulphur freely. I loaned my horse and buggy to Ed. Jones. Weather cloudy and cold, with drizzling rain throughout the entire day.

To day I remained at home, writing up this note book. The little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp] is still doing her own house work. Col. James Wrigley dismissed his former slaves Charley and Rose for impertenance. I loaned my revolver to James Wrigley to go out to Mr. Minter's for the purpose of arresting said Minter on a charge of an assault to commit murder on the person of Mr. Lacour. The party went but were unsuccessful. Weather clear and cool.
