Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.

In the morning I am busy in the ware house. But little business doing. I put the boys to repairing Capt. James Wrigley's fence preparitory to planting his place in corn. weather changeable and occasional showers of rain with a hard rain at night.

Monday, February 24th, 1862
To day the steamer Ruthven arrived from Galveston with some little freight. I am engaged in the ware house. In the evening I remained home and put down a carpet in the large room and then moved in every thing looking very comfortable & pleasant. weather clear and pleasant.

To day I rode hawk up town and got finely Barberized. Charley Lund came down & spent the day with me, after my return from town. weather clear and all together too warm for the season of the year.

This being my birth day anniversary I celebrated it in a proper manner, with a large bowl of Egg Nogg & the etc. etc. that go with it. The Steamer Ruthven left for Galveston. Charley Lund came home from Hardin Co. Boys still in the swamp getting posts. Business very dull in fact almost dried up. weather changeable and warm for the season.

To day the steamer Ruthven arrived from Galveston with some little freight. I am busy in the store. The boys are still at work in the swamp getting posts. Mr. Patillo is working on the stable etc. weather cloudy, cold, occasional showers of rain & very disagreeable.

To day Charley Lund left for Hardin County thus leaving me all alone to attend to the store and the Ware house. But little business doing. Boys are at work in the swamp getting out posts. Mr. Patillo commenced building my stable barn & carriage house. weather cloudy cold with drizzling rain.
