Sunday, June 14th, 1863

To day I drove my horse (Gladiator) and buggy down after Mother [Mahala Sharp Hall nee Roberts], who came up and spent the day with the little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp]. Roberta [Hall] & Toby [Horace Oscar Hall] also came up on Rat. I purchased from Dr. King his place near Mr. Keen's consisting of forty acres of land with the improvements thereon, for which I paid him 300$ and took his deed. weather clear and hot. Ther: standing at 90°.

Tuesday, October 7th, 1862

To day in consequence of my having divided and deeded away Father's interest in the lands that we held in common I made a new will disposing of my property differently from what my prior one done. to this last will Nellie Sharp & William P. Leaverton are witnesses. I remained about the house all day reading. weather changeable & hot.

Saturday, October 4th, 1862

To day I had a settlement with Father and divided with him the lands that we held in common. I made the deed to Mother [Mahala] for the same. The little woman [Margaret] is still quite sick. I am busy taking a copy of the old field notes, taken in 1838, of my Trinity lands. weather changeable & hot.

Thursday, December 12th, 1861

To day I am busily employed in writing deeds. I received a deed from Capt. Wrigley for the four lots upon which I am now erecting my new building. Mr. Hollsclaw returned from his visit home to work on my new house, which is progressing very slowly. Business dull. weather cloudy and cold.
