Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.

To day I am still at work at the warehouse. Mrs. Perkins left for Houston on the cars and the little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp] sent by her $50 to purchase some articles. I drew from the warehouse 80$ in full payment for the wagon I heretofore sold to Jackson. Weather cloudy & cold with occasional showers of rain.

To day I am still at work at the ware house. I assisted Col. Wrigley in putting up 6 Doz. brandy, which we shipped to D. Willis at Livingston, together with 38 sacks of salt. I sold my large road wagon to L. Jackson for 80$ specie and collected from him 4$ which I had heretofore loaned him. Weather variable and pleasant.

To day I drove up town in my buggy with Frank Hitchcock, who left on the train for Houston. I then came home and commenced pulling corn out of my little patch, in order to open a pasture. I got from Mr. Jackson 9 lbs of beef, and paid him up in full for all the beef I had heretofore purchased from him, which amounted to the sum of $7.20. I am again afflicted with another boil on my posterior just opposite where the first one came. Weather clear and hot.

To day I worked a little in the garden, although I am still suffering with a boil & the itch. I drove up town and borrowed from Mr. Lund the sum of fifteen dollars. I also had a settlement with him for hauling some things up the Country for Mr. Green. In said settlement I paid him for the bacon, lard and soap heretofore purchased from him. I purchased from Mr. Bristley 5 lbs of candles for which I paid him the cash. I also paid him for the pound of candles I got from him on the 19th inst. The little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp] purchased from Mr. Jackson 17 lbs of beef for which I still owe him. Weather variable with occasional showers of rain. Ther: 78°.

To day the little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp] missed her fever, but she has a very sore mouth, so has Florence. Conney missed her fever. I purchased from Mr. Jackson 14 lbs of beef and 5 chickens all on a credit. The Yankee troops which had been stationed here all left on the cars in route for Houston, and I sincerely hope no more will be stationed here. I spent the most of the day down at the ware house. Weather variable and hot. Ther: 96°.
