Monday, October 9th, 1865

To day about one hour before day break, Col. Wrigley & I drove down to Walnut bluff in the buggy in order that I could get on the Steamer Mary Hill in accordance with my agreement with Capt. Peacock, but she had dropped down the river and I was disappointed in my expected trip to Galveston. So we returned home in time for breakfast. Col. Wrigley's wagon hauled me 47 bus. of corn that I had purchased from Mr. F.W. Key. Charley Lund left for Houston. Weather variable and rather cool.

Sunday, August 13th, 1865

To day the little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp] had another fever, so also did Jemima, Key and Conney. I remained in the house to wait upon the sick, and am engaged in the intervals in writing up this journal. Mr. & Mrs. Wrigley came over and spent the evening with the little woman. Weather clear and hot. Ther: 92°.

Wednesday, December 10th, 1862

On last night the roan horse Rattler that I purchased yesterday from Mr. Wright was stolen out of my stable, and I honestly believe by the individual from whom I purchased. Mr. Murphy came over on the cars from Houston and took up quarters with me. at night Messrs. Key & Fitzgerald came down to my house and we had quite a pleasant game of whisk. weather changeable and warm, with a hard shower of rain at night.

Monday, August 25th, 1862

To day I am very busy in the office and finished making out the tax rolls for Sam. The Steamer Ruthven left for Galveston. In consequence of the negligence of T.W. Key I am disappointed in not having the will of old man Smith probated, he having failed to give the notices required by law. Mr. Ranier commenced painting the inside of my house. The boys are at work on the fence. Sam Sharp is slightly indisposed. weather cloudy and showery. Ther: 90°.
