Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.

Saturday, September 27th, 1862
To day I sold to D.L. Burton seven beeves belonging to the little woman for $140. Charley Beasley came over to Father's & from him I contracted to purchase some cotton. William Leaverton with the boys assisted D.L. Burton in driving his beeves out to Mustang Prairie, at which place they arrived safe & returned in the evening. weather clear & rather hot.

Tuesday, March 5th, 1861
To day we are all at work on the mill house. with but little grinding I sent Frank Stewart to Cain to collect some ? and also to return the horse that Charley Lund left at my house with instructions to turn out at Mustang prairie but which was afterwards ? up and which cost me 5$ in cash for expenses. weather changable & cold with frost at night.
