Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.

To day I drove the buggy and mules down to Mother's [Mahala Sharp Hall nee Roberts] & carried the little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp] & children with me. We left Jimmy [James Wrigley Hall] & the little Major [James Hall Sharp] with Mother to remain a few days. Weather changeable with a hard shower of rain. Ther: 80°. Thus closes my notes for the month of July.

To day Bill is at work plowing out the peas in the little field. John is still quite sick and unable to do anything. Florence [Florence Mahala Hall] fell from the top of the fence and again fractured her right arm, in consequence of which I sent for Dr. Murchison & Mother [Mahala Sharp Hall nee Roberts] both of whom came & remained all night. Weather cloudy with showers of rain throughout the entire day. Ther: 80°.

To day the little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp] rode down to the mill & had her indigo cut & brought home. I am at work repairing the buggy harness. Nellie [Mary Alexandrien Sharp nee Lemaire] is engaged weaving & succeeded in weaving 1 yd. I let Mr. Keen have 50 lbs. of flour. Weather changeable and hot. Ther: 90°.

To day Bill finished pulling fodder in the mill field. John still complaining although he made a trip to the mill in the little wagon. Mrs. Keen came over & spent the day. Roberta [Roberta Downes Halyard nee Hall] & Ag. came up in the cart and brought us twelve water melons. Florence [Florence Mahala Hall] & Josephine [Josephine Martha Hall] are still sick. Weather clear & hot. Ther: 91°.
