Tuesday, June 21st, 1864

To day the boys are still at work setting out potato slips. I rode up to the school house and paid my taxes. Father [Joshua James Hall] came up and Berta [Roberta Downes Halyard nee Hall] went home with him. Hicks attended the mill and ground 4 bushels of corn. Weather changeable & hot with a hard shower of rain. Ther: 90°.

Monday, June 20th, 1864

To day the boys are at work setting out potato slips. I worked on a pair of warping bars for the little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp]. The little woman and children drove down to Mother's [Mahala Sharp Hall nee Roberts] and spent the day. Roberta [Roberta Downes Halyard nee Hall] came up home with her. Hicks attended the mill and ground 2½ bushels of wheat and 3 bushels of Rye. Weather variable and hot. Ther: 96°.

To day I remained at home writing up this Note book. Mr. Coburn left early in the morning. Weather clear & hot. Ther: 95°.

Saturday, June 18th, 1864

To day the boys finished plowing out the corn in the lower field. Nellie [Mary Alexandrien Sharp nee Lemaire] came home from Mrs. Bird's. I made a bench for the little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp] to use at the house. Hicks attended the mill and ground 30 bushels of corn. Hansel Coburn stopped with me for the night on his way home from Magnolia. Weather clear & warm. Ther: 88°.

Friday, June 17th, 1864

To day the boys are still at work in the lower field. Billy Stewart & I went fishing but with rather poor success. Late in the evening Stewart left for Crockett. Nellie [Mary Alexandrien Sharp nee Lemaire] rode up from Mother's [Mahala Sharp Hall nee Roberts] and then went to Mrs. Bird's where she spent the night. Hicks worked in the garden. Weather clear and warm. Ther: 84°.

Thursday, June 16th, 1864

To day the boys are at work in the lower field. The little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp] rode down to Mother's [Mahala Sharp Hall nee Roberts] & took Toby [Horace Oscar Hall] home with her. I left Crockett in my buggy in Company with Billy Stewart and arrived home late in the evening. Hicks attended the mill and ground 4 bushels of corn. Weather clear and warm. Ther: 84°.

To day the boys are still at work in the little field. I drove my horse (Rob) and buggy to Crockett and stopped with Billy Stewart. Maggie rode down to Mother's [Mahala Sharp Hall nee Roberts] and took Roberta [Roberta Downes Halyard nee Hall] home with her. she bought Toby [Horace Oscar Hall] up home with her. Hicks attended the mill and ground 22 bushels of corn. Weather clear and warm. Ther: 86°.
