Monday, April 27th, 1863


To day the boys commenced to hoe & replant the corn in the bottom field. John is at work hauling sills to the house. Sam* [Samuel Houston Sharp] & Frank Stewart went out cow hunting and remained out all night. I ground 14½ bushels of corn & worked some in the garden. weather changeable & warm with a hard rain at night.

Sunday, April 26th, 1863


To day Father [Joshua James Hall], Sam* Sharp, Frank Stewart and I with the assistance of negro boys Hicks & Joe went down to Hall's bluff in order to run the division line between Mother's [Mahala* Sharp Hall nee Roberts] lands and my own. we succeeded in making the survey after which we all returned home. weather changeable & warm with strong indications of rain.

Saturday, April 25th, 1863


To day the boys are at work planting peas and in hoeing corn. John is still at work hauling rails. I worked the entire day in the garden. Sam* [Samuel Houston Sharp] ground 14 bushels of corn. weather changeable & warm with a hard shower of rain at night.

Friday, April 24th, 1863


To day the boys finished plowing the little field in front of the house. John is still at work hauling rails. Father [Joshua James Hall] & Capt. Stubblefield came up to see me. The little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Roberts] drove the horse (Gladiator) and buggy down to Mother's [Mahala* Sharp Hall nee Roberts] and back. Sam* [Samuel Houston Sharp] ground 13½ bushels of corn. weather changeable and warm.

 *This Mahala is a 3rd great-grandma to the Keeper of this family history blog. Sam is a 2nd great-grandpa, and is Mahala's son.

Thursday, April 23rd, 1863


To day Sam* [Samuel Houston Sharp] and Hicks built a flue out of the brick from the steam house. They also put up the cooking stove. Bill is at work plowing the corn in the little field in front of the house. John is at work hauling rails. I ground 26½ bushels of corn. weather changeable & warm.

Wednesday, April 22nd, 1863


To day the boys finished plowing the corn in the lower field. The little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp], children & myself rode down to Mother's [Mahala* Sharp Hall nee Roberts] and back in the buggy. Sam* [Samuel Houston Sharp] ground 20 bushels of corn.


*This Mahala is a 3rd great-grandma to the Keeper of this family history blog. Sam is a 2nd great-grandpa, and is Mahala's eldest living child.
