Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.

Wednesday, December 10th, 1862
On last night the roan horse Rattler that I purchased yesterday from Mr. Wright was stolen out of my stable, and I honestly believe by the individual from whom I purchased. Mr. Murphy came over on the cars from Houston and took up quarters with me. at night Messrs. Key & Fitzgerald came down to my house and we had quite a pleasant game of whisk. weather changeable and warm, with a hard shower of rain at night.
