Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.

Sunday, October 28th, 1860
To day Father, Mother* & Roberta came up and Sam Sharp** went home with Mother. Bill hauled wood and made 2 loads. Father named the little responsibility as follows. Florence Mahala Hall. Weather warm & Cloudy with every prospect of rain.

FYI . . . Mother is my 3rd great-grandma, Mahala Lee Sharp Hall nee Roberts (1816-1885) . . . and she is the step-mother as well as the mother-in-law of J.M. Hall . . . Sam Sharp is Mahala's son by her first marriage to John M. Sharp . . . and he is my 2nd great-grandpa . . .
