To day the Steamer Ruthven left for Galveston and Capt. J. Wrigley left on her. Business very dull. Sam* [Samuel Houston Sharp] is making out a/c's. The boys are still at work on the fence. at night I was compelled to turn out on patrol service. weather changeable & light showers of rain. at night it was pitch dark & very disagreeable with a very hard rain coming down in perfect torrents.

*This Sam is a 2nd great-grandpa to the Keeper of this family history blog.
