Monday, April 14th, 1862

To day I am busy at work on the war tax rolls. The steamer Ruthven arrived from Galveston with considerable freight. Sam* Sharp and the boys are engaged in storing it away. Business very dull. in fact nothing in that line doing. Frank Hitchcock went up and took tea with us. The Steamer Ruthven left for Galveston at night. weather clear and quite pleasant.

*This Sam is a 2nd great-grandpa to the Keeper of this family history blog.
