Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.

Sunday, November 30th, 1862
To day I went up town and made out all the bills for the goods sold at Auction for Mr. De Blanc, and thus closed my labors in that particular. I visited Captain Peacock and while there took dinner with him, after which I returned home and spent the evening in writing letters. weather changeable & warm, with a light shower of rain at night. Thus closes the jottings for the month of November.
