To day we left Smith's and drove 30 miles arriving in the town of Liberty. We found Nellie's [Mary Alexandrien Sharp nee Lemaire] Mother [Elizabeth Lemaire Beale nee Waring] & Sister quite sick and confined to their beds. At Captain Wrigley's I found several cases of sickness, although the members of the family are generally up. I found poor Jack McKinney nearly dead with the dyptheria. I also found that Charley Lund had left for Houston. In fact I found nothing as I expected to find it. weather clear and hot.
