To day after bidding "good-bye" to all our friends and relatives in Liberty, Nellie [Mary Alexandrien Sharp nee Lemaire] and I left in the buggy drawn by my horse Rob in rather poor condition considering the order in which he was when we drove him down some few days since. We drove 23 miles and stopped for the night at Grand Cane. We stopped at Mr. Hawkins as we passed and there ascertained that the wagons had stopped and got our things that had been left there last fall by Sam Sharp [Samuel Houston Sharp]. The wagons also took the things that were left at Grand Cane. weather clear and very hot. Ther: 96°.
Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.
