To day the boys are still at work on the mill levee. John left with the wagon and team for Corley's gin after a load of cotton. Sam [Samuel Houston Sharp], who has entirely recovered from his sickness, and Billy Stewart went fishing and had very good success. Mother [Mahala Sharp Hall nee Roberts] & Father [Joshua James Hall] are still in Crockett. Nellie [Mary Alexandrien Sharp nee Lemaire] however came home. My babies are still sick. I ground 6 bushels of corn and swaped 11 bushels of meal for corn. weather cloudy & warm, with occasional showers of rain. Ther: 84°.
Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.
