To day the boys again went out hunting cows & calves. Mother [Mahala Sharp Hall nee Roberts] & Mrs. Leaverton came up in my buggy and remained to assist the little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp] in taking care of Jimmy [James Wrigley Hall], who is still very sick with a severe attack of bilious fever. Dr. Murchison came to see Jimmy professionally. The Doctor made me a present of 5 lbs of good home made tobacco. He also made for the little woman 2 bottles of paragoric. Hicks ground 14 bushels of corn. Weather clear & hot. Ther: 90°.
Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.
