Wednesday, March 22nd, 1865

To day I let Mr. Monroe have two bales of cotton which weighed 486 & 513 lbs. He paid me 25$ towards them. The cotton was sold at 6¢ per lb. In the evening Nellie* [Mary Alexandrien Sharp nee Lemaire], Billy Stewart & I returned to the mill. Hicks ground 12 bushels of corn & 6 bushels of wheat. Weather clear & pleasant.

*This Nellie is a 2nd great-grandma to the Keeper of this family history blog.
