Sunday, July 19th, 1863

To day I remained at home reading. Fawn [Florence Mahala Hall] is still sick but still improving. Mother [Mahala Sharp Hall nee Roberts] came up and spent the day with us. I let all the negroes attend a protracted meeting of the Methodist church held at the Elk Hart meeting house. I should not suppose that they were benefited much by their visit although as I learn, there was plenty of hollowing and whooping on the occasion. weather changeable and warm. Ther: 87°.
