To day the boys are still at work on the mill levee and finished all I contemplate having done on it at this time. John left with the wagon and team for Corley's gin after another load of cotton. Fawn [Florence Mahala Hall] is still sick and I am perfectly satisfied that she has the typhoid fever. James [Hall] has recovered from his sickness. Mother [Mahala Sharp Hall nee Roberts] came up to see the children. Sam [Samuel Houston Sharp] & I ground 8 bushels of corn and 8½ bushels of wheat. weather cloudy, hazy & gloomy. Ther: 82°.
Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.
