To day the boys are at work pulling fodder in the little field in front of the house and finished the same. Fawn [Florence Mahala Hall] is still sick. Billy Stewart, John Miller and Wm. Wingfield left for Crockett having had fine success fishing. Father [Joshua James Hall] came up and remained for dinner. Dr. Murchison called into see Fawn. Capt. Stubblefield and wife came up & we all went fishing. we caught a few only. I ground 3 bushels of corn. weather changeable with indications of rain. Ther: 84°.
Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.
