Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.

Friday October 19th, 1860
To day the little woman after much difficulty, tribulation and vexation was delivered of a female child at 7 o'clock a.m. weighing 10½ lbs. there being present Mother, Mrs. Bird & myself, assisted by Rachael & Louisa. hands still at work on the garden screen. Mr. McDaniel & Jo Wright came to see me, and participated in a social glass, the toast being the new "responsibility." Mother remained all night and the rest left for home. weather clear, but rather cool with a frost at night.

Mother is my 3rd great-grandma, Mahala Lee Sharp Hall nee Roberts (1816-1885) . . . she is the mother of the little woman, aka Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp . . . this baby girl, who will be given the name Florence, and nicknamed Fawn, is Mahala's very first grandchild . . .
