To day after bidding all the folks good bye I left Liberty on hawk with Bill, Jemima, the little wagon & mules in route for the mills [i.e., in Houston County]. We crossed the Trinity River at Liberty and went up on the west side of it. we drove 23 miles and camped for the night. Charley Lund also left Liberty on the cars in route for Austin. Expenses of the day $1.60. weather cloudy with prospects of rain. Ther: 84°.
Thus closes my notes for the month of December and also for the year just passed and gone and now numbered with the things that were. Whether the Almighty will spare me to chronicle the daily events of the incoming year is more than I know but trusting in Him I shall enter upon the pleasing task, which is useful as a reference and may be profitable to those who have an interest in me.
