To day John went up to Mr. Keen's with the wagon to do some hauling for him. I rode my mule John up to Prewitt's tan yard & back a distance of 36 miles in order to get some leather but was unsuccessful. The little woman [Margaret Hall Stewart nee Sharp] is still sick with the fever. Mother [Mahala Sharp Hall nee Roberts] came up and spent the day and took Burt [Roberta Downes Halyard nee Hall] home with her. Mother got 22½ lbs of cotton. Weather changeable & hot. Ther: 90°.

    CLOTHING FOR THE SOLDIERS

In obedience to special orders #221, from Dept. Headquarters, the following named officers are ordered to Texas to collect clothing and conscripts for Brigd. Gens. Maclay's and Waul's brigades, Maj. Gen. Walker's old division. It cannot be too earnestly impressed upon the friends and relatives of the soldiers of these brigades and divisions the importance of furnishing them good warm clothing to shield them from the inclemency of the coming winter.

    LOCAL NEWS

Walkers old division was at Monroe, Louisiana a few days ago. Letters for Waul's Brigade should be addressed to Jefferson. Letters for Randall's Brigade should be addressed to Marshall.

We hear many complaints from our patrons on the Palestine route that they do not get their papers regularly. Our post office is now in charge of General Collins, with Tom Stubblefield, Esq. as deputy, and we feel confident that under their management the mails will leave here regularly in the future. For a long time we were entirely without a postmaster. We are requested to state that on Sundays the post office will be open form 8 to 10 a.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. and on other days as usual.
